BIO

Robert Rini is an artist whose work is inspired by classical art as well as offbeat popular illustration, film noir, illuminated manuscripts, sideshow banners, cigar bands, Mexican wrestling posters, and foreign and domestic currency -- which he will gladly accept for his work. He's also a short story writer.

"I am for an art...that does something other than sit on its ass in a museum.  I am for an art that grows up not knowing it is art at all, an art given the chance of having a starting point of zero.  I am for an art that embroils itself with everyday crap and still comes out on top."
                           - Claes Oldenburg

Rini's illustrations have been commissioned by the Dave Matthews Band, the Henry Art Gallery, PCC Natural Foods, Clear Blue Sky Productions, Seattle Town Hall, the Princeton Testing Institute, and La Vanguardia, the daily newspaper in Barcelona, Spain. He has been profiled on "Studio 360," the national arts radio show on Public Radio International.

Rini's paintings have shown at Roq la Rue Gallery, Center on Contemporary Art (COCA), Consolidated Works, Bluebottle Gallery, Joe Bar, Richard Hugo House, the Marine Club in Vancouver, BC, and Gallery Saccade in San Diego, California.
